I accidentally put the fan control tool into full screen and I can't get out of it. I can kill it from Utilities, but when I restart the tool it is still in full screen. ESC doesn't work.

This is hilarious. I tried it myself, and indeed got stuck because the size controls do not appear when you move the mouse to the top of the screen.

What you can do is bring up Mission Control (⌃↑), then drag Macs Fan Control to your primary Space. For me, that didn’t completely solve it, because Macs Fan Control was then absolutely tiny, and resizing its window barely had any effect (probably because it thought it was still Fullscreen).

But after fiddling with it, hiding it, closing the window, minimizing it, and opening a Finder window (?), Macs Fan Control finally took on a maximized size (not Fullscreen). From there, I was able to take it back down to a more normal size

Temporary workaround - clear app preferences (when using Pro version, all custom presets will be deleted, you will also need to re-enter your license).

#!/bin/bash

killall "Macs Fan Control"
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.crystalidea.macsfancontrol.plist
killall -u `id -u -n` cfprefsd
