Introduction

Most browsers have built-in tools that support Web development. Sometimes, these tools are added to the browser through an extension or plug-in mechanism. These tools are very useful for debugging Web applications and improving performance. In this assignment, you will learn how to use the Web development tools available through the Chrome Web browser.

Instructions

Create a free account on Code School and complete the Dev-tools course on Code School. Note that the content in this course is tied to an earlier version of Chrome so you'll need to account for this. For example, in the section on source code, the narrator mentions that Command-S saves a file on Mac; this does not work -- instead, you can right click in the source panel and select to save the file from the menu that appears. If this doesn't work, you'll need to search for another way to save the file. In general, you'll likely need to make small adjustments throughout the tutorial.

Once you have finished, make your Code School profile page public so I can verify that you completed the work. There is a button near the upper right hand side of the report card page that lets you set your report card to public.

If I can not view your report card, you will not receive credit for this part of the assignment so make sure that you make it public. To check that your report card is public, log out of code school and see if you can view your report card by following the link that you plan to send me.

Here is my report card for example.

Select another desktop browser, such as Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer and learn how to use their Web developer tools.

To complete this assignment, email me a link to your public Code School report card and a short description of the alternative browser you studied before the assignment deadline.
