Is there a reason it was removed? I miss the catgirl post counter.

+1.

That post counter was justice.

I want to add that this was requested multiple times in "Danbooru 2 upgrade" and "Danbooru 2.2 Issues" threads.

I like how it goes directly to Posts, very straight-forward. It's also great that albert got rid of the old My Account page and directed it straight to the user profile.

One interesting thing I read from the Gelbooru AMA is that new users were confused by the front page. The expectation is Google-style search behavior where you enter a bunch of keywords separated by spaces, but often times this will result in no hits (like searching for "rei ayanami").

Because of the way Danbooru tags work I don't believe a minimalistic front page a la Google is sufficient. There should be some amount of instruction, a brief explanation of what Danbooru is (i.e., copy), and perhaps cross-referencing the wiki when a search returns no hits.

I think a minimalistic front page would be plenty sufficient... if we had tag autocomplete. #859

from http://danbooru.donmai.us/forum_topics/9127?page=35#forum_post_89843 :

Having a link to a help page explaining tag searches in the case a member gets chickens would be more useful and instructive IMHO.

Indeed, "how to search" on the chicken page, maybe along with #1286, would provide more than enough info. Maybe also make 'how to search' link on the front page, below the search textbox, which would open an expandable block containing basic search principles and, optionally, examples.

And yes, count in another vote for catgirl counter.

Don't mind me, just putting these here for reference:

Very redundant, too. And once we get the front page, we should put the link to it in the navbar instead...

Count me in.

Without the front page, guest (and logged-out) users are forced to see all kinds of... stuff in order to do a tag search.

This. Or just make the link refer to "help:cheatsheet".

Would copying the relevant code from Danbooru v1 and adding it to a fork work @evazion? I'm assuming it would, as I don't see why it wouldn't.
