BioData Club Website, community, and curriculum development A twice-monthly study group and online cirriculum resource. On campus support for students and postdocs learning to code! Do it / teach it!
Data Rescue Developing open metadata standards, and workflow A series of events in Portland empowering people to work on backing up and collecting government data.
Open Advice Website Answering your real world questions about open science.
Radian Data Website with PressForward Plugin A platform that enables curation, centralization, and discovery of resources for open data practitioners, educators, and enthusiasts on the open web. This project will fill a community need by helping researchers, students, and librarians connect to the best resources on data topics and build cross-disciplinary connections.
Scientists Speaking Up Website, survey, and community building A campaign support early career researchers efforts to create an inclusive future for science and insure that socities are standing up for science in an era of "alternative facts", by advocating inside scientific societies. This campaign supported by the early career advocacy group Future of Research.

Mozilla Fellows Onboarding Toronto, CA September 12-15, 2016 🙋 Participant Joined the 2016 Open Science and Open Web Fellows at Mozilla in Toronto for a week of bonding, project planning, and learning from each other - recap here.
Career development and negotiation for women in technical fields with Jessica Williams Portland, OR September 22, 29, & October 6 📋 Organizer Organized a workshop to create saft space to discuss real world issues and learn networking, negotiation, and communication strategies, co-hosted by Women in Science Portland and ChickTech PDX(http://portland.chicktech.org/)
Science Hack Day Portland Portland, OR October 7-8, 2016 📋 Organizer Secured funding, organized catering, materials, and support for speakers and participants with an interdisciplinary team. The event included a kickoff party, 24-hours of hackathon time in a supportive enviornment, and closing project demos. This event was free, open to the public, and featured free access to three 3-D printes, microcontrolers, hardware, and software expertise. Here are some of the outcomes Science Hack Day PDX 2016 facilitated: long term and cross-community collaborations; technology confidence and skill building through hands on experiences with code and hardware; the creation of new and collaborative learning communities, such as OHSU’s BioData Club; an active community of open science practitioners, which spans open source, open hardware, and open data enthusiasts. One attendee said, "without a doubt, my favorite hackathon event I’ve ever attended". Further details here.
Mozilla Festival London, UK October 27-29, 2016 📢 Speaker Lightning talk: "The open revolution is science and why it needs you"
Licensing and copyright roundtable for data sharing and open source Portland, OR November 4, 2016 🙋 Participant Participated in discussion with lawyers, scientists, and academic administrators on licensing, open source, and open science in academic research in the insitutional setting.
OpenCon Washington, DC November 12-14, 2016 👩‍🏫 Session Leader Unconference session leader: Open Advice. Lead a group of 20 early career researchers to meet with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) with Dr. George Strawn, Board Director for the Policy and Global Affairs Division at the National Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences. We advocated for data sharing and open access, more support for early career researchers, voiced our concerns about diversity and inclusion in the sciences. Joined the Oregon OpenCon delegation and meet with Ron Wyden’s staff to discuss the Fair Access to Science and Technology Act (FASTR). More on my OpenCon experiences here.

Mozilla Fellows Work Week San Francisco, CA February 6 - 10, 2017 👩‍🏫 Session Leader & 🙋 Participant Ran a workshop on Project Planning & Measuring Imact for Mozilla Science and Open Web Fellows to complete Project Brief and other project planning exercises. Attended workshops and events run by fellow fellows.
