Installation and setup instructions

Installing to a new server:

  1. Extract all files from the KF2ServertoolX.X.X.zip downloaded from above to a folder of your choosing.

    • Note: You will need 22 gigabytes of free space for server files.
  2. Open KF2ServerTool, select your language. Select "Install a new server", and navigate to your chosen folder for server files. After selecting your location, KF2ServerTool will download the needed files to host your server.

  3. After KF2ServerTool downloads the needed files, it will prompt you to run your server for the first time, select OK. This will take up to 5 minutes depending on your PC, please wait until the window that opens closes itself.

    • If prompted to allow the dedicated server in Windows firewall, select "Allow access".
  4. After the window closes in step 3, KF2ServerTool will re-open itself, and your server is ready to be used. Configure as you prefer, then navigate to the "Server" tab and click "Start Server".

  5. Once your server is started, open Killing Floor 2, at the main menu select "Server Browser", your server will be listed under the "Lan" tab for you to join. Your friends can be invited, or join from the "Friends public" tab in the "Server Browser".

Installing to an already existing server:

  1. Extract all files from the KF2ServertoolX.X.X.zip downloaded from above to your active server folder.

    • This is same folder where you have a .bat to start the server.
  2. Open KF2ServerTool, select your language. Select "Configure the path", and navigate to your active server folder. KF2ServerTool will re-open itself, and your server is ready to be used. Configure as you prefer, then navigate to the "Server" tab and click "Start Server".

  3. Once your server is started, open Killing Floor 2, at the main menu select "Server Browser", your server will be listed under the "Lan" tab for you to join. Your friends can be invited, or join from the "Friends public" tab in the "Server Browser".

Custom map instructions

Workshop downloads:

  1. If you did not manually add the line for redirecting clients to download from the workshop in your .ini files, navigate to the "Options" tab and change the drop down for "Workshop Download Manager" to "Enabled".

    • If you changed this line in your .ini already, ignore this step.
  2. Navigate to the "Maps" tab, click "Add" and select "from workshop browser" (You can search for your item), or "From workshop ID or URL" (You will need the URL from the steam workshop for this option).

  3. If you used "From workshop browser" choose your item after searching, click on it, then click "Add to server". If you chose "From workshop ID or URL" paste your link and click "Ok". Choose your options (Default options will add the map to your server, download it immediately, and subscribe to auto pull updates), and then choose "OK".

  4. Enjoy your new maps in Killing Floor 2!

Re-direct URL downloads:

  1. To enable custom map redirects navigate to the "Options" tab and change the drop down for "Custom redirect" to "Enabled.

  2. Copy and paste/type in your custom redirect URL in the "Redirect URL" box.

  3. Navigate to the "Maps" tab, click "Add" and select "from redirect". Then choose the "..." under "Item(s) name". Choose the map or maps (You can Left Alt + Left click all the maps you want) you would like to install and click "Ok".

  5. Enjoy your new maps in Killing Floor 2!

Installing custom mods

  1. Navigate to the "Mods" tab, and click the "Add" button. Select your mod, and install.
    • Mods are installed with the same methods as maps shown in the above "Custom map instructions" section for both Workshop items, or custom redirect items, except done on the "Mods" tab.

Notes and issues:

Notes:

  1. To update your server to the latest Killing Floor 2 server version, navigate to the "Options" tab and click either "Current version" or "Beta/Preview" under the "Server update" column.

  2. If you have any warning messages about missing files (some will always be missing) or your server is crashing, navigate to the "Options" tab and click either "Current version" or "Beta/Preview" under the "Verify server integrity" column.

Common Issues:

  1. If your server is not showing up in the "Lan" tab after starting it, Close Killing Floor 2 then stop your server. Start your server, and then open Killing Floor 2. Killing Floor 2 will not allow the server to connect to the Steam servers if you have Killing Floor 2 open prior to starting it.

    • If it still does not show up, restart steam. If it STILL does not you might need to port forward your router for the ports listed here (the method will change per model, google your router model port forwarding instructions)
  2. If your friends are not seeing your server under "Public friends", try joining your server first then have them refresh the "Public friends" menu with the "Refresh" button. Sometimes the server will not properly load until you join it, after you and them join, you can leave if you are just hosting for them, the server should continue to run after this.

  3. If you are having issues with workshop maps downloading to clients, or workshop maps are broken/missing items, navigate to the "Options" tab and click either "Clean download cache" (this will delete your item caches) or "Clean workshop data" (this will force update all workshop maps, and items) under the "Workshop" column.
