https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/custom-user-avatar/ appears to go to a 404 page, and there hasn't been any updates in quite a while. WP6.x doesn't appear tested.

If this is not going to be maintained, perhaps the repository could be archived to make it obvious?

Also, if there is another fork that is better, or another plugin that is known to keep the pre-existing avatar associations made with WP User Avatar, it would be helpful to document that.
