Also:

  • Split data files into a vanilla version (without georeferencing data) and one with the JSON, and lat/long columns.
  • Rewrote motivations section
  • Standardised on "Open Refine" throughout

... just to add that the services section more complex than at first glance as requires participants to register for an API key to use the Google geo-coding service.
Some potentially useful APIs don't require registration (e.g. the GBIF services), return JSON and could be used in the lesson, but would need a different use-case (or even dataset).

@nickynicolson thanks so much for this PR and sorry it took so long to review. The addition of information on services is great. I think you're right though that the current data set isn't set up to easily use the APIs. Going through and trying it, it didn't work that well, and as you say requires registering for a Google API key.

We're planning a lesson release and for that release, we'll want to use the current dataset.

So, I'm going to close this PR, but create an issue to update the dataset so that we can use the GBIF dataset and point to this PR. After this release, we'll plan that update, and it will be great to have the work you've done here and be able to integrate services into this lesson.

The standard for OpenRefine is 'OpenRefine', so I'll also file an issue to change any 'Refine' to 'OpenRefine', as you noted.
