IPyWidget rendering with react jupyter-react Output fails Error creating widget: could not find model

Reproduce

run https://github.com/datalayer-examples/jupyter-react-webpack-example
see error next to IPyWidget Output

Expected behavior

widget should render (it renders when one runs code direct in the notebook
