Syllabus: Linear Algebra ~ Machine Learning II

David Stroud

Lectures

Sundays, 6:00-7:00 pm CST. via Zoom. The link will be sent in the main class channel in Discord, just prior to the lecture.

Textbook

The textbook is written by Dan Margalit and Joseph Rabinoff, and is available on-line. You will not need to consult any other books or materials (though you are welcome to do so).

Course requirements

Requirements

  • Attendance and participation at lecture.
  • Homework due every two weeks. Volume adjusted as we progress.

Grading

  • Peer grading during 90-minute lecture.

Prerequisites

You do not need to have seen any linear algebra before; we will develop it from scratch. In the course you'll do some very simple programming in Python, so you should have seen some very basic simple programming.

Course objectives

The goal of this course is to introduce you to the basic ideas of vectors, matrices, matrix multiplication, and linear algebra. We hope that you'll learn how linear algebra is all around you, and how it is used in zillions of applications.
