Maybe quick win to have an option to edit entries would be to pass over the DN of the selected entry (or even the subtree) as a base DN to a tool like ldapvi with the same connection parameter than used for ldapbrowse (host, bind DN, password etc), while ldapbrowse is in the background (SIGTSTP) and once ldapvi is exited to continue ldapbrowse with SIGCONT.
