How to manually create external.ids?

I'm trying to onboard our 1000's of users to a new Keycloak identity provider from github, but there doesn't seem to be a way to create a new external.id manually? The REST API calls only allow view and delete external.ids.

I guess the only option left is updating 1000's of users in notedb? 😢
