Detailed Project Description

We want to build a platform for letting the users help us identify errors in our texts written by journalists, may they be factual or just common typos. The prototype we have built lets the users open up the texts in a web application, fragmented down to each element or paragraph. Here the user may give direct feedback linked to the appropriate fragment. The user then submits either a text on the fragment describing the error or possible alternative source that the journalists should have considered. This approach narrows the focus for feedback and the results and help the users to focus on giving constructive feedback. From our initial tests is has shown to be more precise framework and raise the overall quality.

The best possible outcome of this project is to have more online news sites implement this service and help open up the traditional and serious online media. We want to reclaim trust and transparency in online mainstream media. In the end we hope this can help the traditional media move from the old-school walled garden journalism and towards the open collaborative content creation we find in new-school online media.

After discussions with potential partners we also see the potential need of setting it up as a hosted service for potential partners to join along with releasing the code open source. Although this is at an early stage there might be a service fee for partners to join the hosted service, however the open source will be free of charge.
