I'm going to mention Gadfly in the acknowledgement section of my most recent paper (thanks btw!), but I feel it would be easier and more effective if Gadfly had a DOI. Apparently this is quite easy through Zenodo/Github: https://guides.github.com/activities/citable-code/

Awesome, thanks for thinking to mention Gadfly. Do you know of another Julia repository that has done this? I ask because I went through all the steps, but zenodo didn't do anything. I'm not sure if it doesn't like releases generated from Pkg.tag, or just takes a long time.

I use it. You have to create a release tag through the Github web API for Zenodo to trigger.
