Devs new to workflow (including me) would want to know how to set it up locally for testing before deploying to cloud (staging, testing).

It's probably out of date, but there is documentation available: https://deis.com/docs/workflow/contributing/development-environment/

Does that help?

Yeah, pretty much. But process of setting a local deployment is really cumbersome.

Can you elaborate more on that? What can be done to make it less cumbersome? What makes local development cumbersome for you? I need feedback if I'm going to improve anything :)

It involved a long process to det it up. May be an installation script to bundle all dependencies up. Deis is supposed to be easy to set up without knowing kubernetes configurations.
