Docker Desktop 4.23.0 causes m1 to crash with Kernel Panic #6975
Comments
Hello there! If it's not possible from the UI, you also get the diagnostics from the terminal, see Diagnose from the terminal. |
I've had exactly the same issue. Can't run the application without crashing the OS but ran the diagnostics Diagnostics ID: 5EA71E28-1C76-4839-A0D9-39E0B5DB715A/20230913100639 (uploaded) |
Same issue. 4.22.1 works fine. |
the same. |
Same here. 4.23.0 makes Mac with M1 chip crash and restart. |
Thanks for the report. If the Mac kernel crashes, it's a bug in macOS rather than Docker since we have no kernel extensions. Could you update to the most recent version of macOS to see if it works better? |
Then why does 4.22.1 work fine? |
The trace for the panic on 4.23.0 includes this line:
I presume this is a truncation of I'm currently on Monterey 12.1, will be retesting on the 12.6.9 shortly. I sent at least one bug report to Apple about this, though the transparency of that process isn't what it might be. I agree that it's technically the kernel at fault when userspace programs crash it, but that's cold comfort. |
Works for me on Monterey 12.6.9 Notably |
We had this issue with a few engineers as well - they were running an older version of macOS |
Same here. M1 Pro, macOS 13.5.2 |
Same here M1 pro, macOS 12.2 |
Same here M1 pro, macOS 12.1 |
Hello there! |
this helped me thank you! |
Looks good for me as well, thanks ! |
Got the same issue. Updating to a newer version of MacOS worked wonders. |
Same issue. Diag from Mac: Zone info: CORE 0 PVH locks held: None last started kext at 1526402970138: com.apple.filesystems.msdosfs 1.10 (addr 0xfffffe0024b77760, size 5926) ** Stackshot Succeeded ** Bytes Traced 775004 (Uncompressed 2066320) ** |
Same issue on M1 Pro, macOS 13.5.2 |
Hello,
This built sent earlier works around the macOS kernel panic. |
Same issue here in M1 including when trying the .dmg liked above |
Was on M1 OS 12.0.1. Upgrading to 13.6 fixed the issue |
Can you give this build a try? |
I've upgraded the OS to 13.6, and it is also fixed and started Docker Desktop 4.23.0 without crashing. |
I tried this install and this was able to get me as far as being able to open Docker without it crashing my laptop. However, now whenever I open the app, it is stuck on "Docker Engine stopped". Is this to be expected or is there another issue? |
crash in the same way |
I upgraded to 12.7 and it works for me. However, now I'm dealing with a new issue where zsh kills some of the commands and doesn't execute. I'm currently trying to figure that out but I don't think it's related to docker |
Same issue here. M1 OS Monterey 12.2.1. Downgrading to docker v 4.22.1 worked for me. |
How were you able to downgrade to that version of Docker? Could you link the page where I can find it? |
@Deepp805 https://docs.docker.com/desktop/release-notes/#4221 downloaded docker for desktop and replaced the existing one in my Applications folder |
Same issue M1 Os Monterrey 12.2.1. Downgrading to docker v 4.22.1 worked for me. |
I downgrade docker v 4.22.1, however it's crashing again. |
@Laotree I think you are hitting #6980 |
#6980 (comment) @MihaelaStoica thanks, this hotfix version saves me. |
same issue |
Had the same issue -- Upgrading from Monterey 12.5 to Sonoma 14 fixed the issue. |
Hello, This issue has been fixed in the latest 4.24.0 release. You can see the latest release notes here. I'll close the issue for now, but let us know if the issue persists. |
Same with 4.26.1 and mac 12.2.1:
Downgrading to 4.22.1 solved it |
Thanks 4221 worked for me. |
I just encountered this issue with I downloaded 4.22.1 from https://docs.docker.com/desktop/release-notes and that also worked for me. |
This worked for me I am on MacOS Monterey 12.3 M1 Pro |
Had the same problem with every version in range 4.27.0 - 4.28.0 (M3 Max, OS 14.3.1), 4.22.1 works fine. |
Why is this marked as closed? I'm having the same issue with M1 Macbook Pro and cannot figure out how to downgrade to v4.22.1 so now cannot use Docker at all. |
@darwinsoftware the 4.22.1 download at https://desktop.docker.com/mac/main/arm64/118664/Docker.dmg worked for me on my M1 Mac. |
@paulyoung thank you for the response on this. I eventually found the same link and can confirm that 4.22.1 is stable for me with the M1 chip. The link to download this is no longer on the official release notes page though, so it's good that this is now on the thread. I still don't understand why this issue is marked as 'Closed' though. It seems unresolved to me and it would be nice to receive an update from docker, once it is deemed 'safe to upgrade' for Apple M chip users. |
Hey @darwinsoftware the way I solved this is,
And it's working perfectly fine for me so far. (it's been 3+ weeks since I had the same issue) |
