This time optimizer and syntax tree.

Parsing benchmarks on my machine:

// * Summary *

BenchmarkDotNet v0.13.10, Windows 11 (10.0.22621.3007/22H2/2022Update/SunValley2)
11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7 3.00GHz, 1 CPU, 8 logical and 4 physical cores
.NET SDK 8.0.101
  [Host]     : .NET 8.0.1 (8.0.123.58001), X64 RyuJIT AVX2 DEBUG
  Job-MTHAIC : .NET 8.0.1 (8.0.123.58001), X64 RyuJIT AVX2

InvocationCount=1  UnrollFactor=1

Before:

Method IdentCapture Allocated
ParseBigFile False 33.7 MB
ParseBigFile True 36.38 MB

After:

Method IdentCapture Allocated
ParseBigFile False 32.52 MB
ParseBigFile True 35.2 MB

Which is about 3-4% improvement.

Don't think so, it's within the measurement error. Just no need for ref option in APs, makes little sense honestly.
I expect it to result in less allocations in tooling scenarios though, where we call those a lot.

Hard to measure anything significant properly here, especially on my machine. Brian's microbenchmarks show some clear speed improvements - but yeah it's all quite a small context anyway.
