Here is a screenshot of the example rtf/changes:

I uploaded an example for you to see, rtf can't be uploaded, so I zipped it
KeyNote Editor.zip

So, I've been using markdown for the last year and half, but today I was testing out this new 1.9 version :D 😁
I tried typing |--|--| which is markdown, it's a habit now... Obviously... Didn't work...
I checked the help file and it said it's not possible natively... I felt this was wrong, I clearly remember typing something years ago...
After 30 minutes of scratching my head and trying different things... I remembered how... +--+--+ and it has to be typed from a new line without leading whitespace and press enter... This also works in WordPad, LibreOffice, Word, and Office 365. Google Docs is the only popular office suite that doesn't have this feature.

The table's width is based on this +----+--+ text, so I recommend a mono-spaced font such as Courier New if you want the width to snap-to-grid or snap effect while the default Tahoma will make tables that you'll need to adjust by hand if you try to join two tables with different column counts.

How interesting. I had no idea that RichEdit (and therefore WordPad and other programs) had that functionality. Of course, I'll reflect that in the help. Thank you so much 👏

Seeing its possibilities I would add other options:

  • In addition to defining templates with tables already created, we can prepare templates that are "precursors" of tables, adding the "+" and "-" line before pressing ENTER. This way we can easily make adjustments to the table to be created before pressing ENTER.
    We must take into account:

    • It is necessary to create it by checking "Formatted text" (obtaining an .RTF)
    • It is advisable to create it without including the final character after the last "+", so as not to add a line break so that after inserting the template the cursor is right after the last "+"
  • We can use the glossary and add one or more terms that can be replaced by the precursor lines of tables.
    Example:
    "++" --> "+-------------------+-------------------+"
    "+2" --> Same
    "+8" --> "+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+- ------+-------+-------+"
    etc

    It would be enough to enter the defined term and press F7. We can make some adjustments if we see fit and then press ENTER
