'Proximity sensor' refers to the IR proximity sensor in the top left corner of the screen. It is used to blank the screen when you put the phone to your ear, so you do not press buttons with your face.
This change would increase the distance at which the blanking is triggered.

Next time you might want to put the comments in the description of the pull request instead of the patch, so it would need no modification if it is accepted.

I too noted that the keyboard toggle button does not always toggle the keyboard.
Maybe looking at the output and/or sourcecode of /usr/bin/squeekboard (the virtual keyboard binary) can give some clues to what is amiss.

I submitted a patch to upstream that removes the margins from the osk-button. This fixes the sporadic button misses for me.
I don't know how fast it will get merged and land here. I can also create a PR that patches it in PKGBUILD, if anyone thinks it is worth it.
