Hi folks,

I used Hackpad to crowdsource notes at a recent event last week. Four days later I return to the document and found that it has reverted to its original state and the revision history is completely bare. The hackpad page shows that changes have been made by other people, but not what the content of those changes is.

Has this happened to anybody? what is a fix?

Same here, last weekend. Nothing in the history. Important work gone. Support support@hackpad.com directed here, but only hosting issues could explain this. I will not use Hackpad for anything anymore.

I got a really bad experience along the same lines actually. Wrote 5 pages of notes and then they all disappeared upon re-opening the pages. Hackpad basically managed to lost all the data that I put in last week.

In the home view, the note titles are ok (can't see preview though), but when I click one of the notes, it opens a page with a random auto-generated title and the introductory paragraph "This pad text is synchronized as you type.... ". I tried logging out and back in. I tried running it in incognito mode to avoid any caching problems etc. No success.

These were meeting notes that I needed first thing on Monday morning. Given the fact that this is a product that Dropbox is currently charging money for, I find the complete lack of support very disturbing. They lost my data. OK, I don't actually think it's lost, more like inaccessible. This is a product for content editing that loses content.

My learning from this: 1. Always keep backups. 2. Don't trust Dropbox that much. 3. Never trust a product that has been acquired.

does that happen when you refresh the page or just when you leave and try opening it again?

Tried opening it many times. Data seems simply to be gone.

yeah but does that happen directly after editing it?

Seems like the same issues I had, and no, it didn't happen right after editing. It happened awhile after editing, in fact.

Like nastassjapopova and DerekCaelin also mention, issue didn't happen right away. It basically happened from end of day friday until monday morning for me. hackpad was open in the Google Chrome. I just put the mac to sleep and then opened it again on monday. closed one of the documents in a tab, then went to the home page and that's when it started.

that's exactly what i mean
if you create a new pad, make some changes, close the page and reload or re-open it right away are the changes still there?
what about someone else editing the pad? do you get the changes live in your own browser?

I lost 2 different hackpads. One was in active use and vanished while it was open. Several people had it open. We could figure out the exact time. The other was edited on Friday and was reset by Monday. I never opened it during the time. The one who edited the latter one never opened the first one.

This is the approximate time of the reset http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20160206T1130&p1=101&am=20
The pads were reset to a state from around Friday

Ok, It doesn't seem like it's related to editing in my case at all. When someone is requesting access to the hackpad, it turns blank too. It's terrifying. I have another one failed today.

It happened to me something similar.
I received two requests to edit a moderated hackpad of mine.
Now, if clicking the hackpad link, it opens a new one, with heading the alphanumeric code of the hackpad.
It was a very valuable hackpad.
I have been a very happy user of hackpad until now, but I will never use hackpad again. I will start copy&paste the most important ones.

This is a screenshot of what happens: trying to open the "Cartografiado de jagüeyes en La Guajira", I get a new V7lmg... hackpad. And the data must be still there. Really annoying!

Dudes, seriously, fix it. I love hackpad, I use it a lot, the experience, the UX is awesome, but the fear about the lost content will eventually conquer my loyalty.

I forgot to put the screenshot (it's actually from one of the users I accepted to edit): http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/0705n7jje2
