Traffic appears to be unencrypted?

I noticed that the extension throws an error when HTTPSEverywhere redirects its traffic to the https version of DDG.

This makes me think that this extension isn't using HTTPS. Is this true? If so, can it be changed to use HTTPS?

I used Github code search to see where I could find a naked http. There are basically none outside of license text. I was about to search using the omnibar for something else when I noticed that it's the omnibar search that directs to https://duckduckgo.com!

I have no idea how that was http. Maybe I started using ddg before it was available over https?
