What Went Well (WWW)

The most useful or helpful things about this guidebook are:

  • Information on structuring our CV, preparing for interviews and applying for jobs were the most useful to me because these were things that I was not experienced with at the time.
  • I already had been thinking about my path in the field since high school so that part was important but I did not use it as much.
  • The guidebook was emotionally good to have because I could know that the university is trying to support us in this area.
  • The graphics and organization was very nice, making it easier to navigate and more fun to read.

Even Better If (EBI)

This guidebook would be even better if:

  • I couldn't find anything that was missing really. I found it very useful and am very thankful that you put it together! I finished reading it very early and made my own notes off it.
  • There could be more of TLDR sections so that students can ensure which parts they should read in more detail and which parts they might have thought about already earlier. I cannot say any specific part was too long because everyone's strengths and needs are unique so I would not suggest a cut-down. For example, the introductory bits which made the reading have a friendlier tone were very fun to read but I also skimmed through those parts quickly to get directly to the information. However, I would not necessarily want those parts to be removed because it makes the handbook sound fun. What could be done however is to create a physical division or to highlight the major takeaways which could be useful if someone opened the book for a piece of specific information.

Any Other Business (AOB)

  • I think the online version of the book is enough because it is easier to navigate and eco-friendlier even though a hard copy also sounds fun.
  • Maybe there could be more workshop-like teaching in the handbook than lecture style in which we engage the students to brainstorm or do things like peer review or presenting to each other like interview practice. There could also be polls to choose which parts to focus on.
  • I think creating a guidebook should be something done more often in our course and also should be suggested to other schools.
