Earlier this year I made a few shelves in the @home Attic to organise/store things: #221
Sadly, those shelves were immediately filled with children's toys:

Filling them with toys that are "on rotation" (i.e. not currently being used,
means the storage space cannot be used to store the many other things that are cluttering the house. 😢
Rather than trying to convince anyone to sell or donate the toys - because they might still be useful ...
I figure the best approach is to build more shelves
so that the toys can be more accessible (not hidden in the attic)
and thus the attic space can be used for the intended purpose organising the adults "stuff".

The proposed location for the SAMLA Storage Box Shelves is in the Leisure room
above head height - near the ceiling - and out of the way of day-to-day.

I measured the available horizontal space:

4346/560=7.76
6341/550=11.527

So we have space for 17 storage boxes.
Coincidentally this corresponds almost exactly to the number of boxes full of "learning materials" currently in the attic. 💭
Again, I would much rather not be doing this ...
With the millions of high priority/value tasks on my list ...
There are literally a hundred things I would rather be doing.
But having an untidy house really bugs me every day. 😢

Plywood prototype shelf:

more than sturdy enough. 👌
rated for up to 60kg of content or a small child hanging off it … 😜

Given the price of 10mm plywood - currently € 54.99: https://www.leroymerlin.pt/produtos/madeiras-e-acrilicos/paineis-para-construcao/contraplacado/placa-de-contraplacado-2500x1220x10mm-18896535.html

and the dimensions of each shelf I can get 4 out of each 8”x4” sheet. So that’s €13.75 per shelf!
The cost of the shelf is more than the SAMLA storage box. And that’s not factoring in time (wear+tear/depreciation) on the laser cutter and assembly time … ⏳

really wish we could just sell/donate all the things we don’t need so I wouldn’t have to spend days of my life and hundreds of euros building storage shelves … 😔

Went to Leroy and got these pieces cut to size:

brought them back and stacked at the laser:

Laser-cut, assembled and mounted 4 more shelves:

😭 I really wish I'd read this issue earlier and hadn't missed it in the sea of 'bump' PRs and other rubbish.

Anyway. I just need time to revise the toy storage and it will get pared down.
The same time I need to tidy the house in fact. We can have all the storage we want but if there are a million other urgent things to do, the situation won't change 😞
