This Friday March 10, we'll be combing through Alex's solutions to the problem of identifying fire "events" in MODIS burn products. Alex's code and some test data can be found here: https://github.com/StumWhere/Proximal-Segmenter
Long term, it would be great to make this script available as software provided by Earth Lab. This is a situation that we may find ourselves in frequently ("The script works for me, and I want it to be useful for other people too!").
Short term, the immediate goals for this meetup are to:
Generalize the script so that other people can use it (e.g., from the command line, with different directory structures)
Think about edge cases/failure modes that we can target to make the script more robust
