The purpose of the Desertification Indicators Service application of MELODIES project (WP7) is to exploit services and tools that allow producing and sharing desertification indicators from open data, freely available at national or international levels. The service is composed by a set of tools that will support countries affected by desertification on their reporting to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Three self-contained Desertification service chains will be provided by WP7:

• Land Use and Land Cover
• Land Condition
• Susceptibility to Desertification

The services will produce Technical Auxiliary Indicators to address the latest specification of UNCCD in particular the following index and indicators: Aridity Index, Trends in land productivity or functioning of the Land, and Trends in land cover structure.
