Brand name selection; Phase 2 #9
Comments
We'll leave voting open until February 23/2018. |
If Jakarta EE is used for replacing Java EE, why not use Jakarta directly. And with the population of Java 9 molecularity as time goes by, I do not think we have to separate the SE and EE in future, every feature/spec should be modularized. |
Do you ever wonder what does a fruit has to do with a piece of tech? Terms in IT Industry are way sophisticated. Yet at one time of the year you get the result of all the research and experiments done, by a name of a fruit. |
Excluding "EE" from its name "Jakarta EE" will obviously cause trouble on searching, since it is a name of existing big city. I believe that is why they left EE in its name. |
Shouldn't this issue be closed now, seeing that the voting is over and the results are out? |
The community response to the first Phase of this process (#1) was awesome. The process of whittling those names down to a list of names that we could actually use was challenging and time consuming, but we're finally done and ready to get the community to help us with the selection.
The EE4J PMC considered numerous factors, but in the end the selection process effectively boiled down to identifying those names from the suggestions that The Eclipse Foundation can register and hold as a trademark on behalf of the community.
The choices are: "Jakarta EE" and "Enterprise Profile".
To answer the most obvious question... yes, we have consulted with our friends over at Apache, and they're cool with us using Jakarta.
Since we ended up with only two names, the use of a weighted poll is unnecessary, and so we're taking this forward with a simple "pick your favourite of the two" poll.
