Selection from the explorer can lead to multiple diagram elements being selected

Selecting different elements from the Explorer sometimes leads to multiple diagram elements being selected.

1. Select E1 from the explorer => the node representing E1 is selected on the diagram.
2. Select E2 from the explorer => the nodes representing E1 and E2 are selected on the diagram. (E1's node is not deselected).
