Describe the meta issue:
With "Lens" we are consolidating functionality into a single visualization experience so our users don't have to know the tradeoffs between editors ahead of time as they explore data. As lens approaches feature parity with existing interfaces, make it effortless to make the transition for existing visualizations to the new editor. This is an important step towards simplifying the Kibana analytics experience

UX Ideas / Discussion:

  • Offer an option to "edit in lens" in dashboard for non-lens vis types and migrate / cross-walk settings
  • Offer an option in legacy editors to "try in new editor" (and maybe a "go back" button if they come in this way)

Describe a family of use cases for the overall meta issue:
When I have hundreds of dashboards with TSVB, agg-based panels
I need to effortlessly edit them with the latest editors that have the union of existing and new features
So I can take an idea I've started and add new capabilities to it without having to remake it

Editors to consider for scope:

Phase I

Phase II

I am closing this as we finished all the transitions in 8.6. The next phases will be described in other issues
