If I search for "matthew@wherever.com" when inviting users, I get absolutely zero UI feedback to imply that i've typed in a valid email address which has matched a 3PID lookup and will actually work. Instead, it feels as if i'm typing into the void - just searching randomly, and no results are turning up.

Things we could to to help this:

  • List "invite matthew@wherever.com by email" as the first item in the search list, assuming a syntactically valid email address has been entered. This doesn't help with recognising when a bound email has been entered though
  • format the entry text differently, or slap a [m] logo or something on the first search result item, if the entry is recognised as a valid 3pid.
