Description

When clicking onto riot (encrypted dm) from another tab, or swapping away from it, there is a large lag spike. Scrolling up in an encrypted chat history (unknown if it only happens on encrypted chat) also appears to cause this.

Steps to reproduce

Use encrypted Direct message, send messages, have other tabs open, swap to tabs. It may need several tabs of stuff to produce this effect. Also useing firefox quantum on a machine running Ubuntu with NVIDA drivers may be required.

Describe how what happens differs from what you expected.

I should be able to view Riot quickly when swaping tabs (I assume) Instead firefox freezes when swaping to and away from the Riot tab.

Version information

Web browser: Running on Elementary OS (mostly a reskin of Ubuntu LTS 16.04) with NVIDIA drivers. Using firefox quantum.

Using riot.im/app
Encryped Direct message

I am aware it is highly likely I have some weird config that is messing with this, but, on the off chance it is reproducible easily, I though I would report it.

Edit: it also appears to be occurring on my Solus box too.

Edit 1: Pictures make this sooo much worse.

I find that even in unencrypted rooms firefox is liable to freeze when using Riot.im

@plentylife I have not tested with unencrypted

Sorry to post only to say +1 but yes, this is really annoying.

As soon as pictures (worst with gif/vidéos) gets displayed in the webpage, the UI is not usable anymore.
This is not a computer performance issue, I have the problem on a xeon 4x1.8GHz and 32GB ram, same on the athlon 8x4.2GHz 32GB ram.

My firefox nightly have some plugins like noscript and ublock.

Attached some FF performance dump (32MB!) while attempting to delete a sentence in the 'send message' field. Almost same problem exist on android UI but it is usable anyway.

Feels free to ask some more tests or informations.
