Install a Supported Python Version

myHand AI currently support python version 3.8 - 3.11. This wiki page describes how to install a specific python version easily.

Remarks: Python version 3.12 is yet to be fully supported, as v3.12 has issues with package "openai" and "tiktoken". You may still run letmedoit with python 3.12, but some features may not work.

Example: Install Python 3.11.6 or 3.11.9

on Windows

Overview: Use scoop to install Python version 3.11.6

To install scoop, open NON-admin PowerShell terminal app and run:

Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser

Invoke-RestMethod -Uri https://get.scoop.sh | Invoke-Expression

To install Python 3.11.6, open PowerShell terminal app and run:

scoop install git

scoop bucket add versions

scoop install python311

on Windows 11 via UTM on macOS

Admin Terminal does not work with scoop by default. Use chocolatey instead.

Read: https://getutm.app/ for setup of Windows 11 on macOS via UTM

Overview: Use chocolatey to install Python version 3.11.9

Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force; [System.Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol = [System.Net.ServicePointManager]::SecurityProtocol -bor 3072; iex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://community.chocolatey.org/install.ps1'))

choco install python311

on macOS

First, install brew, a package manager with which users can install 'pyenv':

Install 'pyenv' with 'brew'

brew install pyenv pyenv-virtualenv

Check your SHELL by running:

echo $SHELL

Copy the following lines at the end of file '.bashrc' if your shell is bash; '.zprofile' if your shell is zsh:

export PYENV_ROOT="$HOME/.pyenv"
command -v pyenv >/dev/null || export PATH="$PYENV_ROOT/bin:$PATH"
eval "$(pyenv init -)"
eval "$(pyenv virtualenv-init -)"

Start a new terminal session, then:

Set Python 3.11.6 as the executable for running letmedoit

cd letmedoit

pyenv local 3.11.6

on Ubuntu / Debian / ChromeOS
