Like the original post on reddit says, OBJ doesn't support vertex colors. USD does, I believe. I'll leave this one open, but rate it as highly unlikely that I'll add this feature; adding an entire lighting system module to emulate Minecraft's lighting system (which changes over time, adding to the fun) seems like a lot of work for something one user wants. That said, if there's a huge demand (and someone pays me a million dollars :) ), I'll consider it.
Closing this one - sadly, no one offered me a million dollars. Honestly, this would be a big change and is something better done in DCC apps such as Blender anyway.
