The 'rpc' module now requires that nodes that it communicates with implements the 'erpc' protocol. That is, 'rpc' will fail to communicate with nodes of OTP releases prior to OTP 23.

erpc was introduced in OTP 23. That is, a lot of (most) rpc operations against nodes of releases prior to OTP 23 will fail.
