Make auto_update_exaop.py platform independent

Hi all,

would love to use auto_update_exaop.py in a windows environment but probably won´t get around
to get this merged into here myself - any takers ?
On that note: a little example execution would reduce the "guess work" when figuring out how to pass certain parameters like
the ip´s et. al. .
