Do you have interest in a PR for SDL2? Currently this is using clang, I was having issues with gnu std and used libc++. I have tested on linux mint and windows 10 with msys2. Wolf3d and Spear both seem to be working fine.
I am quite willing to do further work, like adding back in VS project support, or addressing comments you may have, if you are interested at all.
