I'm not sure how to reproduce this issue, but after using RapiD 1.1.6 for a little bit, the cursor changes its appearance to what it looks like when adding a point, line, or area. This seems to happen after selecting multiple features by using the shift key. When this happens, when I click on two features, both are selected as if I'm holding the shift key down. I have to click on the feature another time to unselect it. I know that this isn't just my shift key locking up physically as I've tested typing without using the shift key. I haven't experienced this issue on osm.org/edit, so this is probably just an issue for RapiD.

I played around with this today and I think what you're seeing is actually #299.
You probably were shift-clicking on things and inadvertently started a lasso. When this bug happens, it does get the cursor stuck in the "plus" appearance and things act like the shift key is stuck down!
