Fixes #3549 and probably a bunch of other bugs with collaboration cursors not working as expected. Turns out we were not assigning the correct position when selection was a type of
elementand furthermore, we weren't validating that this could happen, meaning it could potentially crash a client and cause the cursor to get stuck in the wrong place.
