Why remove support for dep? Are Go modules and dep mutually exclusive? Wouldn't it be better to keep dep support but deprecate it so that people can slowly move over to Go mod?

Yes, You have a reason, but the realease v1.4.0 has dep support and i remove it just from master branch.
The master branch is stable, but it can suffer several changes without notice, I recommend better to use the last release to avoid that

I think a could explain it in README, how install it with dep manager.
