I download the zip of this repo, went to addons -> install from file and chose the zip. Then yavne showed up, checked the box to activate it and nothing changed in the editor. I saved everything, restarted and yavne was gone. Tried to install the same way and nothing happens now. Does not show in the addons list no matter what I do.

I'm on 2.76

Or can you please direct me to some other vertex normal editor.. For the life of me I can't find a single addon that works or maybe I just don't know how to install them.

The user interface is available within the "3D View > Tool Shelf > Shading/UVs" tab. It is visible only for a mesh object in Edit mode. No change in the editor will be evident if you are, for instance, in Object mode.

According to your description of the installation process, Y.A.V.N.E. should be present under the mesh category of the addons tab. If you search for it using the input filter then be sure to use "Y.A.V.N.E." as your query; "yavne" will not result in a match.

As a final tip, you may consider running Blender from the console/terminal. In the case of an error, the printed feedback can be extremely valuable for debugging purposes.

I hope these suggestions help to resolve the issues you are experiencing.
