I feel like this might not be the only difference between key mappings for a cn layout keyboard, right? I think in general keymaps need to be handled differently

another thing is if you specify to use a different keyboard layout on diff. platforms. for example im using the mac layout on ubuntu and shift 3 should create a # but it makes a 3. (this issue)

perhaps there should be some abstraction over keyboard mapping, then we specify the default per platform, which can be adjusted by the user. unless their is some OS level thing i can do to get the keymappings.
