Research mode not affecting boundary file color bar

Glenn,
It seems that "research mode", that is, Alt-r, does not change the bounds for boundary files. The case I am playing with is in:

/home4/rmcdermo/GitHub/fds-smv_rmcdermo/Verification/Pressure_Solver/external_vel_bc_3.fds

Sorry, Glenn. But this version crashes with seg fault when I hit Alt-r
with a loaded boundary file.

no good deed goes unpunished. my fix was workign until I also implemented it for particle files. unless I messed up my git topic branch, the OSX smokeview located here should work
