Why is Version 2 No Longer Available on CurseForge?

There are a few reasons why "Last Death Location" version 2.0 and later is no longer available on CurseForge:

  • The version management was awful.
  • The new UI had bugs.
  • CurseForge did not properly support datapacks.
  • Managing two download pages requires more effort than just one.

Why is There Even a Version 2?

I decided to create a version 2 for several reasons:

  • The backend of version 1 was outdated and not easily extendable.
  • New Minecraft Java Edition functionalities, like function macros and the return run command, were introduced.
  • Version 1 was not efficient in terms of performance.

Will Version 2 Ever Be Available for Minecraft Version 1.20.2 and Older?

No, version 2 will never be available for 1.20.2 and older. This is because "Last Death Location" heavily relies on features that were added in 1.20.3, such as function macros and the if function subcommand.

Is Version 2 Compatible with Version 1?

No, version 2 was built from the ground up and has literally no connection to version 1 whatsoever. If you'd like to update (which I recommend!), you have to completely uninstall version 1 first. To do so, use /function lastdeathlocation:uninstall. Then, remove the zip archive from the datapacks folder of your world.

How to Update from Version 2 to a Newer Version?

Since version 2 no longer offers an update function, you can simply remove the old zip archive from the datapacks folder and add the new version in. There's no need to run any additional functions.
