This change will set a limit at 42 coins which currently doesn't exist. It will also stretch the time before reaching 42 coins to about 7 years from now by reducing the block reward slowly, rather than next year at block 990382 which is when 42 coins will be reached if there are no reductions in block award. This will create a hard fork at block 498330. A hard fork at some point will be necessary if there is to be a limit at 42 coins.

Thanks for comment :) I think you would want to do this to save value in 42 coin and make it live up to its name.

I can't support this and won't and I don't think the miners in my pool
would either UNLESS it drives up the value of the coin substantially in the
short term.

Many coins survive just fine once they're mined out.

If you are the official developer - welcome back from your haitus - I think
the people at Cryptsy have some unanswered questions for you.

let me know your standing as it relates to the coin.

If you are the offical DEV then I think this change should be put to
community vote.

by the way - if you are the official DEV for the coin I would only be in
favor of this if you fixed the horrendous ORPHAN problem with this wallet
code.

Thanks for your consideration! A couple comments:

  1. This change WILL increase the value (slowly reducing rate of new coin to dump on exchanges)

  2. This change won't directly help the orphan problem, sorry, that is due to short block time and possibly large pools running selfish mining codes. There is no way wallet software will affect orphaning. It will help indirectly by increasing interest and confidence in the coin.

  3. As it stands right now, there is no "mined out" in the code.. reward is set to continue at .00042 every 42 seconds FOREVER. Therefore a change IS NECESARY if you intend to keep the number of coins in cirulation less than 42.

  4. Any fork in a cryptocurrency is automatically put to community vote, community decides which branch to run. If you approve this commit and most people don't like it they will stay with original code.

  5. You are the official DEV! :) I am just a community member who likes your coin. I am also the developer of Woodcoin.

Good luck -

I'd prefer a continued life of 4 years not 7 years - can you make that
change - if you do I think I can support the fork.

Any comments on whether to commit this to the master repo? I am running it live at the moment and will try to recruit others. Please comment devs!

I'm gonna close this request. I guess there are enough alts out there, we shouldn't cry that one is dying :) Should be fun to watch anyway.
