Right now the default is
DEFAULT_DD_BLOCKSIZE=1MB.
DEFAULT_DD_BLOCKSIZE=1M is a multiple of 2 and performs faster.

Just for reference how to find the optimum buffer size: How to calculate optimal dd buffer size. In the thread there are two scripts referenced which I find useful.
