From NixOS Wiki entry on Flakes:

Flakes allow you to specify your code's dependencies (e.g. remote Git repositories) in a declarative way, simply by listing them inside a flake.nix file.

Found this video and it looks pretty straightforward to add flakes to my config. I will open an issue to track the work. I consider this exploration as done.
