This is what I meant by #497. It makes my changes look really off-putting after I used prettier. If we get to the bottom of it, the issue I opened can be properly closed.

These are the right changes 🙂 The original version wasn't run through a formatter, but we do want the code to be properly formatted now, so thanks for calling that out!
