Wednesday 6th August

  • CR - Added notes about prepaid card companies.
  • CR - Signed up for a Kalixa Card account to see how it works.
  • CR - Added notes about Simple.

Tuesday 5th August

  • CR - Investigated Simple (formerly Bank Simple) and moved on to the offerings from prepaid card companies.

Tuesday 22nd July

  • CR - Spoke to ABCUL about our study group application and the possibility of becoming a supplier to the CUEP. It sounds as though there's no chance of getting involved in CUEP as they've chosen their supplier through a closed tender process. They have said that we can become a study group member and they're going to send the information required to make the transfer.

Wednesday 9th July

  • CR - Finished tidying up my notes about the CUEP and adding them to this wiki.

Tuesday 8th July

  • CR - Spent the day investigating the Credit Union Expansion Project.

Monday 7th July

  • CR/JM - Met with JB to chat about credit unions and his and our plans.

Friday 4th July

  • CR/JM - Interesting twitter conversation with someone involved in the credit union expansion project
  • CR - Some research into bitcoin/blockchain
  • CR - Research into the banks that offer accounts for credit unions
  • JM - Finished migrating content from the Google Doc to the wiki

Thursday 3rd July

  • JM - received London Community CU "welcome pack"
    • Generic sort code & account number with membership number as transaction reference (c.f. London Capital CU)
    • Need to physically validate identity in order to take out loan or transfer money to external bank account
    • Need to phone them again to give them some "secure personal information" (a name, word or date that is special to me)
    • Standing Order Mandate form which allows me to ask my bank to make regular payments into my CU account
  • JM - asked UKCU about what current account facilities it's possible for a credit union to offer if they do not operate the CU Current Account
    • the answer is not much!
    • it is possible to offer Prepaid Cards which can be used to withdraw cash from ATM or make a payment in a shop (?)
  • JM - downloaded and filled in London Community CU application form for CU Current Account
    • need to take application form, photo ID and proof of address to one of their 4 branches
  • JM - wiki gardening
    • repo rename credit-union -> bank
    • moved/deleted content from our Google Doc
    • extracted credit-union-specific content into its own page
    • explained what bank-like entities we've considered
  • CR - Registered for BACS transfer functionality from my credit union account to my bank account
  • JM/CR - filled in and sent of the ABCUL study group application form
    • chose name as "Free Range" so we can hopefully avoid having to fill in FCA/PRA form for permission to use "credit union" in name

Wednesday 2nd July

  • CR - Collected some information about the Co-op's Community Directplus account.
  • CR - Spoke to the Co-op's credit union relationship manager about credit union current accounts and how some of the credit union software we've seen (from progress.ie and kesho) integrates with the co-ops online banking system.
  • CR - Spoke to ABCUL about their credit union current accounts.
  • JM - Asked UKCU about Study Groups and Credit Union Current Account
  • JM - Activated London Community CU account and registered and logged in to online banking

Tuesday 1st July

  • UKCU tell us you don't need to create an I&PS first. It seems as if registering a credit union is a superset of registering an I&PS.
  • Respond to various comments and tweets - many offering support.
  • JM/CR - Decided to focus on the project for at least another week.
  • JM/CR - Started Trello board.
  • JM/CR - Drafted a manifesto to try to help us keep focussed.

Monday 30th June

  • CR spent most of the day working on switching us over to a new Linode instance so the credit union project took a backseat today.
  • CR can now login to Credit Union online but it doesn't show my balance of £10.
  • JM spent most of the day writing the day notes for Friday and the GFR week notes.
  • JM started reading about alternatives to credit unions - friendly societies, building societies.

Friday 28th June

  • JM created this wiki.
  • JM in contact with UKCU - they're being really helpful.
  • CR added some notes about going through the PRA credit union application form.
  • CR/JM chatted about how we were getting on and whether it's sensible to continue.
  • JM reminded us of the chat we had with Josef Davies-Coates in the past.
  • JM heard back about his credit union.

Thursday 27th June

  • JM investigating becoming an IPS.
  • JM found a number of (what appear to be) alternatives to ABCUL.
  • CR trying to understand the various ways in which money can be transferred between banks.
  • CR received notification that my online account had been set-up but that it might take 48 hours before I can access it.

Wednesday 26th June
