With your latest addition of Quick Open I can't tell you how much more usable notepad++ is!!! This is a GREAT feature and just works! PLEASE consider changing the name of your plugin to something more unique so other people can find it more easily and Notepad++ doesn't confused your plugin with the 3 "other" explorer plugins! GREAT STUFF!!

Can you get rid of upper panel in Explorer (Tree)? It is useless for me since I already see files and folders in bottom panel.

I'm thinking of adding some extra characters at the end to make it unique when searching for the plugin name "Explorer."
e.g. ExplorerNext.dll, ExplorerPlus.dll...

I still have issues that I want to improve, so I will change the name when I complete them.

You are right. This is even better. Just make sure it sounds different than just Explorer because people who are not familiar with plugins may not see the difference. For me it was extremely strange that the name is "npp-...." and that I have to copy the file over. I personally hate that so many plugins have "npp" in the name. No point. I like ExplorerPLUS or ExplorerEASY.

Can you get rid of this upper panel? I don't need it and it is disturbing me, since I already see files and folders below. If you still want it can you just create a checkbox in settings "Show only bottom panel"? Please?

As an user i'd strictly vote against to remove the upper folder treeview - at least if this is not left to the user as an option.

Many use cases do speak against! To remove it without option to decide would be a NoGo in my eyes.

I don't understand what is the purpose since you have folders on bottom panel too. I haven't seen two panels in other editors. VS code has one (only open editors are on top if you want). N++ folder as workspace has one tree too and it is fantastic. If it would have option to open file like CTRL+P in VS code that would be it. I would add a checkbox and that solves it all. Like it is now it is totally useless for me, just taking space.

I'd have a completely different opinion here. I'd start from searching a folder whereever it is
(not only a parent or a directly neighboured subfolder) and, afterwards, for files. When i search a folder, i don't want to see files ... and vice versa.
In the lower part of the screenshot, where are files? You'd need to navigate heavily because there are shown only folders-

There might be options for the file list like "parent dir enabled" - [..] - or "include subfolders" or such, that's normal.
There might be an option too for not to show the tree by demand at all. Would be ok so far; a matter of preference.

But essentially the double window of the explorer plugin (and not a hybrid thing) is imo an on top bonus of the plugin that must not go lost.
Imagine you have a Windows Explorer without directory tree ...
Must have part for me: essentially to preserve the folder tree.
I recently had migrated from another editor because i found those hybrid lists to be very annoying and I don’t want to go back.

Preferences and manners differ, established habits to work should be supported and not destroyed in my eyes.
So an issue like #44 (optional full tree) is ok in my eyes, but not a request to get rid of the tree (or the list) completely.

klaus i understand you but like i said having 2 views is anjoying and wasting of space for me. there should be just one tree as mentioned one year ago in #44. having an option is even better so we can both use this explorer. dev probably wont go with one panel and not give an option so no worries for you 🙂 if he wont make it optional, he could still use one tree and use vscode solution. did you see how you see folders and you can click any of them then the dropdown will open and show you subfolders. not a bad idea at all.

i want to donate $10 to dev if he makes top panel optional so i can hide it and if there could be small icon showing what folder was selected as root folder.

tiomanisland, yes, Apparently it's a matter of habits and manners, so,

"make top panel optional so i can hide it"

would be absolutely fine for me, as an option.
Whereaas to remove the tree without an optio: would feel for me as if 50% of the essentials of an explorer go lost ('ExplorerMinus').

I think it's better i'd open a dedicated thread for this specific topic, so that the positive essence of this original topic (quick open is a game changer) does not go too much in the background here further.

Hm, i'd like to add some few words why i do insist so expressively on the treeview structure
for to make it (hopefully) a bit better understandable:

one of the big bonus of funap's changes is the synchronization between tabs and folder tree
(thank you again funap for this change!):
if i click on a tab then i'm directly positioned on the belonging folder in the tree.
What i see here is is a much more better orientation where i am. Better than eg. seeing a simple one-liner telling "very-long-directory-name-with-substructureX-and substructure” or such. I can identjfy immediately the context visually, the near folder neighbourhood.
That's extremely helpful when having a couple of quite similar named folders to recognize exactly where i am, eg. when having diverse test copies for to try various things. Cannot imagine at all to miss this!

you wont miss anything if funap just add simple check buttons:

then you can disable the top one, bottom one or both ha ha ha

My speech was only to clarify that removing the upper panel without being that purely as option would not good at all.

yes, those filelist options would be for someone who cares about folders mainly in the treeview (upper panel), and, so, doesn't want to see folders redundantely in the filelist (lower panel) again. Because, here, he wants to focus fully onto files here and nothing else.
See the sample image (from another app).
The orange marker indicates the "goto parent folder" symbol. Some (like me) might like it, others maybe not.

Hiding the folder tree would make navigating the directory difficult.
So, there are no plans to support show folder tree panel in option as of now.
There are many steps to change settings in options.
If I were to implement this feature, it would be like using a splitter control to hide the top and bottom panels.

Just to mention that, by default, there is a shortcut Ctrl+P for this feature, but this shortcut is already taken by the "Print..." command.

To fix this, open "Settings > Shortcut Mapper...", then search for the "Print..." command (there is a filter input at the bottom of the window), and clear the shortcut.
