We would benefit greatly from a general approach to validate that our dashboards aren't outdated (avoiding the fearsome “no data” label). This would still not solve the problem that new metrics are not put into dashboards, but at least we would detect broken dashboards based on no longer collected metrics. @istvanballok had some thoughts here.
