To coordinate is to intentionally relate two or more elements-- often, agents' activities or resources-- to support a specific goal.
The goal of coordination may be to govern specific risks. For instance, the activities of two or more agents may be intentionally transformed to reduce conflict or risky competition.
Coordination often occurs unofficially. However, collectives may assign coordination roles to subgroups or to personal agents.
A coordination function (or any other function) which is assigned to a subgroup agent often becomes collaborative work within that subgroup.
