I tried Revealjs slides (implemented in Academic) and Remarkjs. I prefer Remarkjs as it seems to be more appropriate for "academic" presentation (less fancy, more "serious"). Some very good examples of themes and usage are presented in the xaringan package such as Metropolis or others from xaringan package. Using such a theme only requires to download the css files and "use it".

Anyway, I've implemented a new layout in my Academic repo to use Remarkjs inside hugo-academic theme. The result works well, but one default of Remarkjs is that Hugo shortcodes cannot be used due to the fact that the Markdown code is sent as RawContent to Remarkjs.

If you think, @gcushen and the other users, that it can be useful for the community, I'll be happy to submit a PR. Otherwise, no problem, I'll close this issue :-)

Thanks for the suggestion. The various slide solutions were carefully investigated at the time and Reveal was chosen for a number of reasons. I'm not interested in supporting multiple solutions to achieve the same thing. Reveal is very powerful and can be fully customized.

Ok no problem! Btw, coming from Beamer, I was wondering if you know some nice themes for Reveal (apart from these provided with hugo-academic)?

What was the reasons for preferring Reveal.js ? From what I have seen, Remark.js seems more adequate for academic presentations (see gnab/remark#363 (comment), it seems designed for that), which would be your goal I guess. I hardly imagine a math presentation in Reveal.js for example.

But I understand you do not want to support both, but may be it is worth mentioning that it is easy to add another style of slide adding a new layout locally in your website.

@PierreMarchand20 not stop you to make an integration than propose it
at the end few "plugins/modules" are optional in Academic
such as Google Maps vs OpenStreetMaps
and obviously if the core dev/team have to please every demand that will cut time on maintaining and debugging the overall.
